How Do You Make Keychain Charms?

Once you've made your own custom keychains with WizardPins, you might find yourself wanting to get even more creative by crafting some fun keychain charms to go on them. There are lots of different materials you can use to make your own charms, and the process will vary depending on what you decide to use.

Polymer Clay Charms

You can make lots of fun charms out of polymer clay, like miniature food items, cute animals, or your initials. To do so:

  1. Condition the clay by kneading it until it's soft.
  2. Sculpt your charm.
  3. Insert a metal eye pin where the charm will be attached to your keychain.
  4. Bake the clay according to the package instructions.
  5. Let it cool, then attach a jump ring.

Beaded Charms

To make beaded creations like a simple birthstone-inspired charm or an intricate beaded animal or dream catcher:

  1. Choose your beads and thread them onto a wire.
  2. Bend the end of the wire into a loop to secure the beads and create a connection point for your keychain.
  3. Attach a jump ring to the loop.

Fabric Charms

To make a miniature plush charm, follow these steps:

  1. Cut two identical shapes out of fabric.
  2. Sew the edges together, leaving a small opening.
  3. Stuff cotton or polyester stuffing in through the opening, then sew it shut.
  4. Sew on a small loop of ribbon or sturdy string, then add a jump ring.

Wooden Charms

To make a keychain charm out of wood:

  1. Cut out a small wooden shape (or buy one pre-cut).
  2. Sand the edges smooth.
  3. Decorate the wood using paint or a wood-burner.
  4. Apply a sealant to protect your charm.
  5. Drill a small hole into the charm and attach a jump ring.
